The Saps Capricorn District yesterday launched “Operation Basadi” led by the District Commissioner Major General Lesiba Mashilo flanked by the Saps members from the District. The launch was part of Women’s Month activities in recognition of the role female law enforcers play in the society and in the fight against crime.
The female police officers of all ranks from all levels of command in the district formed part of the operation supported by the SANDF, Traffic Officials, Firefighters, Immigration, CPF, YCOP and Community in Blue.
The activities culminated in a march-pass led by the Saps Brass band where the City of Polokwane was put to a standstill.
The parade was held in Polokwane. Brigadier Sivhula handed the three-phase operational plan to the District Commissioner Major General Mashilo and Sergeant Mosima Lekota read the code of conduct.
Major General Mashilo addressed the parade where he reminded the members of their ultimate objection to ensure the safety and security of the citizens of this province and urged them to go out there and fight all forms of criminality.
The operation was characterised by walk-about, stop and searches, tracing of wanted suspects, road blocks and patrols.
The MEC of Transport and Community Safety Mme Mavhungu Lerule-Ramakhanya together with the Provincial Commissioner of Police in Limpopo Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe later joined the roadblocks on the N1 Botlokwa.
