Three suspects aged 35 and 50 are set to appear at the Mahlabathini and Babanango Magistrate’s Court today facing charges of unlawful possession of firearms and ammunition.
Between 28 and 29 December 2021, the Zululand District Task Team, Ulundi SAPS Trio Crime Task Team, Ulundi Public Order Policing Task Team, and Ulundi K9 Unit embarked on an intelligence-driven operation targeting Illegal firearms and dangerous weapons.
The operation led the police to Esikhaleni, KwaMvula in Ulundi, and KwaZiqongwana in Babanango where they arrested three suspects who were found in possession of a 9mm pistol, 38 special revolvers, Norinco Star pistol, and 28 rounds of ammunition. They will also be profiled to establish if they are linked to other cases reported in the Zululand District.
The recovered firearms will be subjected to ballistic testing. More arrests are imminent as the operations are still ongoing.
