The swift response by members of the Provincial Extortion Task Team led to the arrest of a 70-year-old suspect for the possession of mandrax tablets.
The members reacted to a tip-off given by members of the public about drugs at premises in NY21 Gugulethu on 29 December 2021. After the members obtain permission to search the premises, they found 1218 mandrax tablets and an undisclosed amount of cash hidden in the kitchen and bedroom. The estimated street value of the drugs is about R74 000-00.
In an unrelated matter, Atlantis police was busy with focussed patrols on Wednesday, 29 December 2021 at around 12:25, when they spotted a suspicious male in Grosvenor Street. Upon searching him, they confiscated a firearm with ammunition. The 27-year-old man was arrested and detained on a charge of possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition
Meanwhile, the vigilance by members of Worcester police led to the arrest of a 35-year-old male for the possession of an unlicensed firearm with ammunition in Vink Street Avian Park early yesterday morning, 29 December 2021. The members were busy with patrols when they saw a suspicious male and decided to search him. The suspect was found in possession of a 9mm pistol and ammunition.
Once charged the suspects are due to make their court appearances in the Athlone, Atlantis, and Worcester Magistrates courts respectively on the mentioned charges.
