The Hawks’ Serious Corruption Investigation team based in Bloemfontein arrested a 32-year-old suspect in Gqeberha, Eastern Cape yesterday, 14 February 2022 for allegations of fraud and corruption. Four other accused were already arrested last year October in Free State and Eastern Cape as well as Gauteng.
This comes after the Hawks’ Serious Corruption Investigation team received information about the accused, Tlali Jacob Letaba who was arrested last year on 15 October 2021 for issuing unlawful motor vehicle roadworthy certificates with examiners from different private testing stations in the Eastern Cape. It is alleged that he issued these certificates without the vehicles being inspected by authorized examiners. The victims will then be instructed to pay the gratification of R1100.
The suspect is expected to appear before the Ficksburg magistrate’s Court on tomorrow, 16 February 2022.
