The operations to combat illegal mining in Gauteng Province continue to intensify as police arrests 36 people, including undocumented foreign nationals who are also suspected to be illegal miners.
During the operation which was held at Kagiso in West Rand District, the police also seized tools of trade for illegal mining such as generators, pendukas, gas bottles, steel brackets and gold bearing material.
The arrested suspects are expected to appear before court soon on different charges that include possession of suspected stolen property, illegal mining, possession of ammunition and contravention of Immigration Act.
