A girl aged approximately three-years-old has been removed from a two storey home in Redcliffe – Kwazulu Natal by Reaction Officers this morning.
Several residents on Orchid Drive contacted Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) reporting that a child was heard crying hysterically for several hours. When a female Officer arrived at the residence she found the child inside the home. The Officer established that the girl was locked inside the home daily by her mother and grandmother.
Several Reaction Officers responded to the house and gained entry onto the property. They found all doors & burglar gaurds locked. A single door leading to the balcony was found open.
A Reaction Officer climbed onto the second storey and removed the child. When Officer Angel Mbali spoke to the child she first requested that her Barbie Doll be rescued from the home. When the minor was handed her toy she informed Officers that her mother had left to meet a friend. She added that her grandmother had also left after locking her inside the home without adult supervision.
Reaction Officers interviewed neighbours who had no contact details for the occupants of the home. Information was received that the grandmother worked at a local clinic. When Officers arrived at the clinic they were informed that the grandmother had not reported for duty but was seen in the vicinity of Redcliffe – KZN this morning.
The child is currently being cared for at the RUSA Headquarters while Reaction Officers are attempting to locate her guardians.
