GAUTENG – The dedicated members of the Anti-Gang Unit (AGU) have executed multiple operations beginning Thursday, 30 October 2025, resulting in the arrest of eleven individuals across various communities, including Westbury, Reiger Park, and Johannesburg Central. Among those arrested were two minors, both aged 16.
The arrests were made for various offences, including possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition, possession of drugs, and driving under the influence of alcohol. Notably, the two minors were apprehended in Westbury after being found in possession of unlicensed firearms. They have since been taken to the Walter Sisulu Child and Youth Care Centre for appropriate detention.
Throughout the weekend, the AGU’s proactive operations led to significant seizures, including three firearms, 23 rounds of live ammunition, 30 ziplock bags containing crystal meth, 26 mandrax tablets, 10 halves of mandrax tablets, cash, and dagga. These successful outcomes are a testament to the collaborative efforts between the AGU and the community, with many of the arrests resulting from valuable information provided by local residents, along with regular stop-and-search initiatives conducted by the dedicated AGU team.
All suspects, including the minors, are expected to appear before the relevant courts today.
We encourage the community to continue their partnership with the South African Police Service (SAPS) in the fight against crime. Residents are urged to report any suspicious and criminal activities as well as tip-offs to SAPS Crime Stop on 08600 10111 and may do so anonymously.
