At approximately 06:50 this morning (Saturday), members of the public contacted Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) for assistance after apprehending a robbery suspect in possession of a firearm and ammunition in the Impini area of Mhlasini – KZN.
The suspect, believed to be in his mid-30s, has allegedly been involved in a series of burglaries and robberies targeting residents & pedestrians on their way to work.
This morning, the suspect pointed a firearm at a member of the public. Community members intervened, subdued him, and recovered a 9mm Norinco pistol with three live rounds of ammunition.
It was later established that the serial number on the firearm had been filed off.
The suspect sustained severe injuries after being assaulted by the community before Reaction Officers arrived.
