A man who stole a brushcutter in the Umtentweni area on Sunday tried to escape pursuing Mi7 Reaction Officers by swimming out into the ocean. However, Mi7 teams were not deterred, and went right in after him.
On Sunday afternoon, Mi7 Armed Response teams in the Port Shepstone area received reports that a suspect had made off with a brushcutter stolen from a resident’s home (non-client) in the Umtentweni area. A description of the suspect was shared and teams were asked to be on the lookout.
Eventually, Mi7 Reaction Officers spotted the man carrying the stolen item. A foot chase ensued for a while, the man eventually dropping the brushcutter, and making his way onto the beach. To the team’s suprise, the man headed straight towards the water and started to swim out.
Undeterred, Reaction Officers followed him in, boots, bullet proof jackets, equipment, and all. The teams were about chest deep when they finally caught up to him and pulled him out.
The matter was handed over to the police for further investigation.
