GAUTENG – A 68-year-old suspect was arrested on Tuesday, 04 November 2025 by members of the Johannesburg based Hawks’ Serious Organised Crime Investigation team for Cash-In-Transit robbery, theft of motor vehicle and possession of explosives.
It is alleged that on 05 March 2021 at about 17:43 an armoured cash vehicle was attacked and bombed in Lower Germiston road at the area of Cleveland. The security officials were disarmed of their pistols and the suspects then fled the scene with undisclosed amount of money. Information was received by the police that the vehicle Ford Ranger bakkie which was used to commit crime belongs to a certain company. The police followed up on the information and visited the company. It was confirmed by the manager of the company that on the day of incident the vehicle was driven by the suspect.
Further investigation conducted by the Hawks culminated in the arrest of the suspect in Johannesburg. The suspect is expected to appear before the Johannesburg Magistrates court on Wednesday 05 November 2025.
