OR TAMBO – The OR Tambo District Task team and Stock Theft Prevention Task Team continued with their efforts in fighting the proliferation of unlicensed/prohibited firearms in the OR Tambo District as they yet recovered two unlicensed 9mm pistols in Mthatha and arrested two male suspects aged 47 and 63 in two different occasions.
In the first incident on Sunday, 09 November 2025, at about 22:20, a 63-year-old male suspect of Gaduka locality – Upper Ncise A/A – Mthatha was arrested by the OR Tambo Stock Theft Prevention Task Team for possession of an unlicensed 9mm pistol (erased serial number) with (07) seven rounds of live ammunition. In another unrelated incident, the OR Tambo District Task Team through an intelligence driven operation arrested a 47-year-old male suspect of Silverton locality (KwaStwayi) – Mthatha on Monday, 10 November 2025 at about 22:00, found in possession of a 9mm pistol (intact serial number) also with (07) seven live rounds. The Durban based owner of the firearm never reported the firearm as stolen. The duo is due to appear before Mthatha Magistrate’s Court once charged, for unlawful possession of unlicensed firearms and unlawful possession of ammunition.
OR Tambo District Commissioner, Major General Norman Modishana applauded the task team involved in the operations and urged them to work tirelessly for a safer festive season for all.
