The vigilance of police members attached to Maitland Flying Squad, resulted in the arrest of two suspects for the possession of an unlicensed firearm on Monday, 24 November 2025.
The members responded to a complaint yesterday afternoon, after a courier company truck was hijacked in Main Road, Rondebosch.
The truck with the driver was found on the M3. The members followed up information on suspects driving a VW Polo who were involved in the hijacking. A similar vehicle with different number plates was pulled over on Baden Powell Drive, Rocklands. The members searched the vehicle and found the correct number plates of the vehicle, hidden underneath a seat. They also found a 9mm Luger pistol, hidden in one of the air vents of the vehicle.
Two suspects aged 22 and 36, were detained at Mitchells Plain SAPS for possession of an unlicensed firearm.
The suspects are due to appear in the Mitchells Plain Magistrates court, once they are charged.
