The SAPS remains committed to ensuring the safety and security of all community members and the successful implementation of Operation Lockdown III, aimed at enhancing public safety and reducing crime in all areas.
On Monday 22 December 2025 at 18:25, members attached to Operation Lockdown III arrested a 18 year old male for the possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition. The members were conducting operations in the Philippi policing precinct. During a stop-and-search operation, they encountered an adult male suspected of carrying a firearm. The suspect was subsequently arrested, and a 9mm P.A.K, three rounds of ammunition were confiscated.
At 23:30, the members deployed in the Ravensmead area arrested a 22-year-old male for possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition. The members were conducting stop-and-search operations in the Uitsig area when they spotted a suspicious looking male in Carnation Avenue. They stopped and search the suspect, and discovered a .38 revolver with six rounds concealed in his waistband. He could not provide a valid licence to be in possession of the mentioned firearm which resulted in the detention of the 22-year-old man for possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition.
Early this morning 23 December 2025 at about 01:00, the members followed up on information about drugs kept at a premises in Warwick Place, 15th Avenue, Elsies Rivier. They approached the premises and upon entering they found a male who fitted the description and searched him, 28 mandrax tablets and three half mandrax tablets and 11 sachets containing tik was found in his possession. A 59-year-old male was arrested and detained at Elsies Rivier SAPS for possession and dealing of drugs.
Once charged the suspects are expected to make their respective court appearances in the Athlone and Goodwood Magistrates’ courts on the mentioned charges.
