Members of the South African Police Service in Limpopo have arrested 779 suspects and recovered seven firearms during a high-density Operation Shanela II conducted across all five districts in the Limpopo Province.
The operation commenced on Monday, 24 November 2025, and continued until Sunday, 30 November 2025, executed in partnership with various law enforcement agencies and stakeholders.
The suspects were arrested for a range of offenses, including illegal possession of firearms and ammunition, possession of dangerous weapons, illegal dealing in liquor, drug-related crimes, rape, assault (GBH and common), burglary, robbery, driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs, as well as immigration violations.
The arrested suspects have already begun appearing before various magistrates’ courts across the province.
The Provincial Commissioner of Limpopo, Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe, said: “These results reflect a deliberate and coordinated effort to remove criminals and illegal weapons from our communities. As we move deeper into the festive season, we want to assure residents and visitors that law enforcement will maintain a firm and highly visible presence across Limpopo.”
