WESTERN CAPE – Police in the Western Cape are hard at work fighting gang related crime in gang ridden areas.
On Tuesday,16 December 2025, members of the Atlantis Crime Prevention Unit were conducting stop and search operations in Schoonberg Street, Extension 13, Atlantis, when they searched the wheelie bin where the suspect was standing and found a .38 Special revolver with six rounds of ammunition. The suspect was arrested for the possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition.
The 19-year-old suspect will appear in the Atlantis Magistrates’ Court once he has been charged.
In Steenberg, members of Public Order Police were busy with patrols in Grindel Avenue, Lavender Hill, when they were stopped by community members who informed them about a person who is shooting. They noticed the person fitting the description and when he saw the police vehicle he ran into a nearby premises. The police members gave chase and apprehended the suspect and found him in possession of a firearm which is licensed. The 46-year-old male is facing a charge of discharging a firearm in a municipal area.
He will appear in the Wynberg Magistrates’ Court once charged.
