The South African Police Service (SAPS) in the Prieska has arrested a 25-year-old man for alleged dealing in drugs after members recovered dagga with an estimated street value exceeding R8 000 during a routine patrol in Prieska.
Saturday, 11 July 2026, members attached to Prieska Police Station were conducting routine crime prevention patrols in Hector Street, Prieska, when they noticed a man behaving suspiciously upon seeing the marked police vehicle.
The suspect allegedly entered a nearby yard and appeared to conceal an object.
The members immediately acted on their observations and approached the suspect. A search of the area led to the recovery of a blue 20-litre bucket containing dagga. Police also confiscated cash found in the suspect’s possession, which forms part of the ongoing investigation.
The suspect was arrested and charged with dealing in drugs. He is expected to appear before the Prieska Magistrate’s Court soon.
The District Commissioner of the Pixley ka Seme District, Major General Nomana Mtukushe, commended the members for their vigilance and swift action.
“The dedication and alertness displayed by our members demonstrate our unwavering commitment to removing drugs from our communities and holding those involved in drug-related crime accountable. We remain steadfast in our efforts to create safer communities for all,” said Major General Mtukushe.
