A crime-combatting operation conducted by the Somerset West Crime Prevention Unit led to the discovery of a vehicle that is associated to several house robbery cases including rape in arears such as Kleinmond, Stellenbosch, Table View and Bothasig.
The police spotted a grey Honda BRV that is linked with the above-mentioned cases on the N2 Road on Wednesday, 08 July at around 05:45. An attempt to stop the vehicle was made but the suspect drove in high speed towards the direction to Cape Town using the N2 Road. Amidst the chase, the members saw him throwing two bags out of the window while continuing to speed the car. The bags were then found filled with a firearm that is used during robberies and technology equipment which was reported to have been stolen the night before in Betty’s Bay, Kleinmond.
Subsequently, after a very lengthy pursuit the 32-year-old male suspect who is a foreign national was caught and apprehended for possession of a prohibited firearm, possession of stolen property, contravention of the immigration act as well as reckless and negligent driving.
The police seized the vehicle and booked it in as exhibit, furthermore, the suspect will appear at the Somerset Magistrate’s Court once he has been charged. #TrioCrimes
