silver grey Mazda 3 crashed into a petrol pump at a service station in Cottonlands – KZN on Saturday (04/07/2026), causing extensive damage to the vehicle and the fuel pump.
Members of Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) were dispatched to the scene at approximately 21:30 after receiving a request for assistance.
On arrival, a Reaction Officer found that the vehicle had collided with a petrol pump with debris from the damaged pump scattered approximately 100 metres from the point of impact. Fuel and engine oil had spilled onto the forecourt and the vehicle had sustained extensive front end damage, rendering it immobile.
The driver informed the Reaction Officer that he was not seriously injured and declined medical treatment. According to the garage Supervisor, the vehicle had allegedly been travelling at a high speed when it failed to stop at the control point before crashing into the petrol pump.
Employees at the service station reportedly extinguished a small fire that started on the vehicle before it could spread.
