Two (2) members of the same family, including a child, were shot after gunmen opened fire at a tavern in Thandanani opposite Trenance Park – KZN today (Saturday).
The Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) Operations Centre received a call for assistance at approximately 20:32 and immediately dispatched Reaction Officers to the scene.
On arrival, Officers were met by a female who reported that members of her family had been shot. According to information received, three (3) unidentified armed suspects arrived at the premises and opened fire before fleeing the scene.
A 41 year-old man sustained three (3) gunshot wounds to both thighs, while a 12 year-old girl suffered one (1) gunshot wound to her left leg. The motive for the shooting could not be confirmed.
Both injured victims had already been transported to hospital in a private vehicle prior to the arrival of Reaction Officers.
A search of the scene led to the recovery of five (5) spent 9mm cartridge cartridges.
