Police officers who are members of the Ulundi Tactical Response Team (TRT) arrested three suspects aged between 50 and 61 at Makhasaneni area for unlawful possession of firearms on Tuesday, 2 December 2025. Information of individuals in possession of unlicensed firearms was received by police on Tuesday night and the team proceeded to Makhasani area under the Melmoth policing precinct to conduct an operation. During the operation, police recovered five homemade firearms, one homemade shotgun, one .38 special revolver, one pistol and ammunition.
The suspects could not provide any valid documentation which permits them to be in possession of the recovered firearms. They were subsequently arrested for unlawful possession of firearms and ammunition. The suspects are due to appear at the Melmoth Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday, 3 December 2025.
