A 28-year-old man was shot after allegedly attacking a Pensioner at a property in Southridge – KZN this morning (Tuesday, 14/07/2026).
The Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) Operations Centre received a call for assistance at approximately 09:36. On arrival at a property on Adams Road, Reaction Officers interviewed the 65-year-old homeowner, who reported that he had confronted a suspected thief inside his yard. He stated that he attempted to apprehend the suspect after producing his licensed 9mm pistol.
According to the Pensioner, the suspect then produced a knife, resulting in a scuffle. During the confrontation, a single shot was discharged, striking the suspect in his right leg. The injured man allegedly dropped the knife and fled the property.
Reaction Officers searched the surrounding area and located the injured suspect approximately 150 metres away on Primrose Drive in Southridge – KZN. He was bleeding from a gunshot wound to his right leg.
The homeowner further stated that the same man had visited the property on Monday requesting water for two (2) empty five (5) litre plastic containers. The Pensioner obliged and now believes the request may have been used to scout the premises prior to the incident.
During an interview, the injured suspect admitted to being a drug user. He further alleged that he had previously sustained two (2) gunshot wounds during a Police operation in Umhlali – KZN in 2025, claiming he was struck by crossfire while Officers were searching for another individual.
