Police officers deployed to bring about stabilisation and dismantle illegal mining activities in Bekkersdal and the surrounding areas arrested a man who is suspected to be an illegal miner after he was found with equipment used for illegal mining on Tuesday, 06 January 2026, in Mohlakeng, West Rand District.
The suspect, who is also believed to be an illegal immigrant is expected to appear before Randfontein Magistrate Court on Thursday, 08 January 2025.
Police seized illegal mining tools that include:
8 x Generators;
3 x Jackhamers;
1 x Waterpump;
1 x Extention Courd;
4 x Drill Bits for Jackhamers;
70 x 25kg bags of gold bearing material;
1 x Gemulex Super 100 Blasting Cartridge;
3 x meters of Detonation Cord;
1 x GWM Bakkie used in illegal mining.
