An off-duty Policeman was shot and killed in Cottonlands – KZN this afternoon (Saturday).
At approximately 21:47, Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) received a call for assistance after a resident reported hearing a gunshot. Upon investigating, the caller discovered a man lying in the roadway.
Reaction Officers arrived on scene and found a 38-year-old male lying in the centre of the road with a single gunshot wound to the back of his head. He was declared deceased at the scene.
The victim’s brother-in-law confirmed that the deceased was an off-duty SAPS Official stationed at Ndwedwe Police Station in Ndwedwe – KZN. The Officer resided in Ndwedwe – KZN but was allegedly visiting family in Cottonlands – KZN at the time.
The victim’s red Toyota Tazz was found at the scene. All personal belongings were still in his possession, and no items were reported missing.
The motive for the shooting is unknown at this stage.
