The Flying Squad’s rapid reaction prompted the recovery of a hijacked vehicle on Friday, 30 January 2026. At approximately 14:00, the squad received reports of a vehicle that was hijacked in Paarl East traveling towards Swartklip Road in Khayelitsha. They spotted the silver Nissan Qashqai speeding off and pursued it. The suspects drove off the road into an informal settlement with Flying Squad on their tail. They then stopped and fled on foot, leaving the vehicle with their clothing items, cellphones, and a .38 Special revolver in the driver’s door compartment. All these were booked in as exhibits, and investigation is ongoing.
Meanwhile, Mfuleni Crime Prevention Unit members, together with Provincial Crime Intelligence penetrated a house of an alleged extortionist at an informal settlement in Bosasa, Mfuleni. While searching the premises, they found an R5 assault rifle with 59 rounds of ammunition and 2 rounds of a.38 revolver. The firearm was confiscated, and an inquiry has been opened as they did not find the suspect at the premises, investigation continues.
