South Africa has experienced more rainfall than what many are accustomed to the last few months. Even areas that do not usually experience rainfall this time of year have had to manage wet weather on the roads. Many hope this rainfall is the start of continued rain after a dry period in the country for a number of years. Yet, South African drivers may find themselves in need of a reminder on how to handle the wet roads and collision avoidance at the moment.
The CEO of MasterDrive, Eugene Herbert, says equipping oneself or your employees is a skill that cannot be underestimated. “Driving in wet weather can be a challenging experience at the best of times but should you find yourself in an emergency situation, having the skills to handle this is a literal example of the difference between life and death.
“While one’s vehicle can spin out in many scenarios, it tends to be more common in wet weather. Slippery surfaces, loss of traction, lack of time to react to obstacles or the actions of other road users and many other factors often result in the crashes you hear about on rainy days in your city. While there are many things one can do to try prevent finding themselves in a skid all together, the reality is that it is impossible to be 100% sure you never land in this dangerous driving situation.”
This is when knowing how to handle a skid and avoid a collision becomes a life-saving skill. “It is one thing to discuss what to do in theory and quite another to practice these skills in a real-life, simulated environment. MasterDrive’s Collision Avoidance Skidpan Course provides this realistic experience so drivers can feel first-hand what a possible loss of control is like and how to best handle this.
“In addition to the skills obtained in this, it also proves to be an enjoyable experience. With the guidance of an instructor by your side, there is no reason not to enjoy the thrill that can also come from a skid pan,” says Herbert.
An upcoming Collision Avoidance Skidpan Course will be taking place on 12 February at MasterDrive’s new training facilities at Nasrec Expo Centre. If you are interested in joining the experience, do not hesitate to contact MasterDrive on 086 110 0618 or email info@masterdrive.co.za. Places are limited and bookings are essential.
