The vigilance of Public Order Police members based in George ensured that two suspects are due to make their first court appearance on Friday, 17 June 2022 in connection with illicit drugs with an estimated street value of R175 000-00 that was found on a premises in Lawaaikamp, George.
Preliminary investigation reveals that on Tuesday, 14 June 2022 at about 23:00 the members operationalised information on a parcel, believed to be drugs, to be delivered at the house. They pounced on the premises and spotted a man fled with a bag. However, his freedom was short-lived when the vigilant members caught up with him and found mandrax tablets in his possession. A further search of the premises ensued when police found a box wrapped in plastic bags in the bedroom with a large consignment of drugs. The police confiscated 3495 mandrax tablets, 54 halves, 22 quarters and 233,16 grams of mandrax powder at the premises. Two suspects, aged 34 and 39, were arrested on charges of dealing in drugs.
Detectives attached to the Western Cape Provincial Organised Crime Investigation Narcotics based in George is probing this matter. Further investigation reveals that the find was destined for delivery in and around George.
The pair remains in police custody. They are scheduled to appear in the Thembalethu Magistrates’ court tomorrow, 17 June 2022, on the mentioned charges.
