Eight suspects are expected to make their respective court appearances on charges of possession of abalone and possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition.
Fish Hoek Crime Prevention unit patrolled the main Road on Wednesday, 25 October 2023 at about 05:00, when they noticed a suspicious Toyota Quantum. The members pulled over the vehicle and ensued with a search of the occupants. In the process, they found and confiscated multiple bags containing abalone. They detained seven suspects on a charge of possession of abalone.
In an unrelated incident Bishop Lavis police members were busy with patrols in the early hours of Thursday, 26 October 2023, near Keurberg Road when they noticed an unknown man who dropped an object where after he changed direction and fled the scene when he saw the patrol vehicle. The members accosted the man and recovered a silver pistol with ammunition. The 21-year-old man could not produce a valid licence to be in possession of the firearm and was detained on a charge of possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition.
The suspects are expected to make their respective court appearances in the Simon’s Town and Bishop Lavis Magistrates’ court on the mentioned charges, once charged.
