In recent weeks (01/12/2024 – 20/01/2025) Members of Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) have received several death threats from criminals.
The telephone calls (withheld numbers), smses and Whatsapp messages were directed to Reaction Officers instrumental in the arrest of Armed Robbers, Hijackers, Scammers, Fraudsters and Murderers. Reaction Officers were informed by these unidentified callers that they were going to be shot and killed for various reasons. They were also threatened to refrain from attending Court in specific trials. One call is believed to be made from a prison in Kwazulu Natal. This information could not be confirmed.
Reaction Officers have arrested several dangerous suspects in 2024. These perpetrators were arrested in the Gauteng Province, Eastern Cape & Kwazulu Natal for various serious crime. Several of the suspects have been denied bail & remanded in custody at prisons throughout South Africa while others have been granted bail while awaiting trail. Its has also been established that contact information provided by Officers on Statements of Arrests and Recoveries have
been shared with criminal elements by Corrupt Officials.
Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) has since taken drastic measures to protect Reaction Officers both On and Off Duty (information withheld). Reaction Officers have also been given options to conceal their facial identity and remove Identity cards whilst dealing with criminals and during Police/RUSA Operations. These Officers also have been given additional training and issued equipment to deal with threats & hostile situations.
On the evening of January 20, 2025 an On Duty female Reaction Officer suffered injuries after she was attacked by a suspect in Ethekweni – KZN.
