The Provincial Commissioner of Gauteng, Lt Gen Tommy Mthobeni led the multidisciplinary forces of #OperationShanela in Johannesburg last night, 22 March 2025.
The overnight suspects raiding by detectives resulted in the arrest of 667 wanted suspects for various crimes of which 149 are crimes committed against women and children. This was followed by a multidisciplinary roadblock and compliance inspections at liquor outlets.
At the roadblock, the team arrested 21 people for drunk and driving, 39 illegal immigrants and one person for possession of stolen vehicle. Five liquor outlets were issued with fines for contravention of the Liqour Act.
The operations are continuous to ensure that the inhabitants of Gauteng province are and feel safe.
