A man on parole for murder was arrested for attempted murder by a RUSA Member in Tongaat – KZN this afternoon (Saturday).
A Reaction Officer was departing from the Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) Tongaat Operations Centre at approximately 20:19 when he was confronted by a frantic male. The man informed him that his girlfriend was stabbed by a male who propositioned her for sex. He pointed out an individual fleeing across Gopalall Hurbans Road as the suspect.
The Reaction Officer pursued the suspect on foot and apprehended him outside the Tongaat SAPS. During a scuffle the suspect produced a knife (picture 3) and attempted to stab the Officer. The RUSA Member drew his firearm and instructed the suspect to surrender. The knife was seized and the suspect was restrained.
It was established that suspect approached the female who was standing outside a store waiting for her boyfriend. He propositioned her for sex, but she rejected his advances. He then produced a pocket knife and lacerated her abdomen exposing her intestines. Her boyfriend exited the store and found the seriously injured female on the floor.
The perpetrator fled and the victim’s boyfriend sought assistance from the Reaction Officer. The woman was expedited to a local clinic in a critical condition. She is expected to be transferred to a specialist hospital for further medical intervention. It was established that the suspect was on parole for a previous murder he committed.
