A 38-year-old African male is due to appear before the Thembisa Magistrate’s Court on Monday, 23 June 2025 for two counts of murder and armed robbery.
On 12 June 2025 at about 09:30pm, two Ekurhuleni Metro Police Officers were shot and killed in Thembisa. The officers who were travelling in an unmarked VW Golf TDI had arrived to pick up a colleague for night duty, while they were waiting for their colleague to alight from the house the two officers were ambushed by unknown men who fired several shots at the officers and fatally wounding both officers. The suspects then robbed the officers of their service pistols. The suspects fled in a Suzuki Swift.
On Friday, 20 June 2025 a multidisciplinary operation was conducted which led the officers to Sigasa Street in Thembisa where one suspect was arrested for double murder and robbery.
The suspect is expected to make his first appearance before the Thembisa Magistrate’s Court on Monday, 23 June 2025 where he faces the above mentioned charges. Provincial Head of the Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation in Gauteng has lauded the multidisciplinary team for the excellent efforts in pursuing the suspect.
