Police and other law enforcement agencies’ relentless efforts to fight against incidents of crimes in Ekurhuleni District continue to bear fruits as 221 suspects were arrested for various offenses from Friday 11 July 2025 to Sunday 13 July 2025.
The detectives’ suspects tracing Operation Shanela, which was carried out on Saturday, 12 July 2025, throughout the Ekurhuleni Policing Precincts, resulted in the arrest of 161 suspects. 36 were arrested for other significant crimes, 28 for issues linked to gender-based violence, 10 for contact-related crimes, and 92 for contact-related crimes.
The SAPS and other law enforcement agencies conducted their weekly Operation Shanela throughout the Ekurhuleni Policing Precincts from Friday, 11 July 2025, to Sunday, 13 July 2025, and detained further offenders.
Major General Mbuso Khumalo, the Acting Provincial Commissioner, led the main operation in Tembisa on Saturday, 12 July 2025, which resulted in the closure of six illegal liquor outlets, the arrest of three suspects for drug possession, eleven for violating the Immigration Act, sixteen for drunk driving, the impoundment of two vehicles after it was found that their engines had been tampered with, and the arrest of a suspect for possessing an unlicensed firearm while searching him and his vehicle at the road block along Reverand RTJ Namane road in Tembisa.
On Friday, 11 July 2025, a suspicious white Toyota Etios was spotted by highway patrols in Crystal Park along N12 road. The car was stopped and searched. When the police searched the car, they discovered two large packages of dagga. The suspect confessed that he collected the dagga in one of the houses in Crystal Park. The residence was approached and searched the home owner was discovered hiding inside. Following a comprehensive search, almost 20 bags of dagga were discovered. The two suspects were brought into custody and placed in Crystal Park on suspicion of possessing cannabis.
Still in Ekurhuleni District, on Friday 11 July 2025 in Nigel area, an integrated illegal mining operation was conducted whereby SAPS members and other law enforcement agencies managed to seize pendukas, gas cylinder, generators, steel frames, oxygen bottles. Motor, steel pots, stampers, connector capped fuse, and blasting cartridges
Ekurhuleni District Commissioner, Major General Anna Sithole commended the members for putting more efforts in the struggle and still encouraging communities to continue to work hand in hand with the police by providing accurate information.
