“This car was last licenced in 2016. The owner of this Polo was arrested yesterday by the No Nonsense team from Road Traffic Inspectorate in Pietemaritzburg. He was nabbed driving this car with a fake and photocopied disc of another car. This is in violation of the National Road Traffic Act,” MEC for Transport and Human Settlements explained.
Duma further stated: “We are cleaning up our road networks and impounding cars with cloned plates. Such cars are used to avoid detection by police and our surveillance systems.
“We are dealing with many cases of motorists who commit offenses like speeding and their fines go to someone else who is innocent.”
He concluded: “Section 68(3) of the National Road Traffic Act makes it an offence for any person to falsify, counterfeit, alter, or be in possession of a falsified certificate, licence, or other document issued under the Act, with intent to deceive.”
