A Pakistani national was robbed of his iPhone by two knife-wielding suspects while walking along Ireland Street in the Verulam CBD – KZN today (Thursday).
The victim immediately proceeded to Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) Headquarters, where he used a second cellphone to track the last known location of his stolen device. Reaction Officers accompanied the victim and conducted an extensive search of the area; however, both the suspects and the cellphone could not be located.
During the search, Officers received information that the same suspects had earlier robbed a retired Nurse on Todd Street in the Verulam CBD – KZN. Information received is that the perpetrators are drug users who target pedestrians and shoppers, selling stolen phones to fund their drug habits.
Reaction Officers & members of the South African Police Service (SAPS) have previously apprehended members of this gang, but it is suspected that the leaders have since been released after serving their sentences.
