An e-hailing driver was hijacked during the early hours of this morning (Sunday) in Ndwedwe, KwaZulu-Natal.
At approximately 07:45, a member of the public who owns a tuckshop in Canelands – KZN contacted Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) requesting assistance after being approached by a distressed 35-year-old male who reported that he had been hijacked.
The victim informed Reaction Officers that at approximately 04:00, he was approached by three unknown male suspects in the Verulam CBD – KZN who requested transport to Ndwedwe – KZN.
The suspects instructed him to first stop in Hazelmere – KZN to collect a female. After picking up the female, the group continued towards Ndwedwe.
While en route, two of the male suspects allegedly produced firearms and instructed the driver to pull over into a sugarcane field. The victim was then assaulted with a wheel spanner and dumped in the cane field. The suspects fled the scene with his vehicle.
The hijacked vehicle is described as a white Volkswagen Polo Vivo sedan, 2017 model. The victim is unsure of the registration number. The vehicle had approximately half a tank of fuel at the time of the incident. The suspects also stole the victim’s Samsung A5 cellphone and a wallet containing approximately R300 in cash.
The victim sustained injuries to his head and was transported to a medical facility for medical attention.
