The Durban Metro Police Service Tracing Unit, working jointly with the Provincial Task Team and ILembe District Crime Intelligence, executed a highly successful intelligence-driven operation in the Warrenton area (KwaDukuza) on 17 December 2025 night.
Following months of surveillance on an individual suspected of hiring out unlicensed firearms linked to serious crimes including possible CIT-related incidents, the teams acted swiftly on verified intelligence.
Upon searching the suspect’s residence and vehicle, members recovered the following:
Five (5) illegal firearms, including:
• 303 Rifle
• 302 Rifle
• Shotgun
• Silver Revolver
• 9mm Beretta
Various live rounds, including:
• 303 Rifle rounds (200)
• 302 Rifle rounds (61)
• .38 Special (108)
• 9mm rounds (61)
• Shotgun rounds (102)
• .45 Special (100)
A 56-year-old Indian male, was arrested after all firearms were found hidden in multiple areas of his home and vehicle. Serial numbers were checked and returned positive for theft under SAPS KwaDukuza CAS.
The suspect faces charges of:
• Unlawful possession of firearms
• Unlawful possession of ammunition
Durban Metro Police commends the seamless collaboration between all units involved. These illegal firearms, which could have been used to terrorize communities in iLembe and eThekwini, have now been removed from circulation.
