It is a deeply sad day for the crime-fighting community of Phoenix following the tragic murder of well-known community crime fighter, Muzair Musi Saib (25).
The victim was reportedly requested as an Uber driver, after which all communication with him ceased. Concern grew among family members when they were unable to make contact with their son, who was actively involved in crime prevention efforts in Phoenix and worked closely with Community Policing Forums (CPF), private security companies, and SAPS.
A coordinated search effort involving multiple agencies and community members was launched. Searches were conducted through dense bush areas and surrounding areas in an attempt to locate the missing victim.
On Tuesday night, the victim’s vehicle was discovered abandoned in the Bhambayi area with its registration plates removed. Community members, together with security partners, continued search operations and subsequently identified two persons of interest.
The two individuals, now identified as suspects, led authorities to the location where the victim’s body had been dumped in a stream along the Phoenix Highway. It is believed that the victim sustained multiple stab wounds.
KZN VIP Emergency Medical Services assessed the victim at the scene; however, he showed no signs of life and was declared deceased.
The South African Police Service, together with Search and Rescue teams, remain on scene and are in the process of recovering the body from the stream. The investigation is ongoing.
KZN VIP extends its heartfelt condolences to the Saib family, friends, and the wider Phoenix community during this extremely difficult time. The loss of a dedicated crime fighter in such a brutal manner is a devastating blow to all who work tirelessly to keep communities safe.
