The Sasolburg #SAPS are investigating a case of culpable homicide following a fatal motor vehicle accident that claimed the life of a 42-year-old driver and left another person hospitalised.
It is alleged that on Tuesday, 09 June 2026, at approximately 07:35, members of the Sasolburg SAPS responded to a report of a motor vehicle accident on the R59 involving two vehicles. Upon arrival at the scene, police found a heavy motor vehicle on fire and a silver Toyota Yaris that had sustained extensive damage.
According to preliminary investigations, the driver of the Toyota Yaris was traveling from Sasolburg towards Parys, while the truck was traveling in the opposite direction, from Parys towards Sasolburg. It is alleged that the driver of the Toyota Yaris lost control of the vehicle, and the two vehicles collided head-on.
The driver of the Toyota Yaris was certified dead at the scene by Emergency Medical Services personnel. The truck driver sustained injuries and was transported to the hospital for medical treatment.
The cause of the accident is still under investigation, and no arrests have been made.
