The Tshwane Metropolitan Police Department (TMPD) conducted targeted drunk-driving operations across multiple precincts over the weekend, resulting in 27 arrests for alcohol-related offences.
On Saturday, 11 July 2026, TMPD Region 2, Sector 2 officers from Sinoville in the northern corridors carried out an operation in Pretoria North area. The members arrested 16 individuals for driving under the influence and one person for public drinking.
Also that same Saturday, Region 6, Sector 1 members conducted a separate targeted operation in Mamelodi West focusing on drunk driving, resulting in five arrests for driving under the influence of intoxicating substances.
On Sunday, 12 July 2026, the Freeway Unit, the Tshwane Rapid Transport Unit (TRT) and the Pedestrian Unit conducted a joint operation on WF Nkomo Street near Little Manhattan. Five drivers were arrested for offences related to driving under the influence of alcohol.
These targeted operations form part of the TMPD’s ongoing efforts to reduce alcohol-related harm and improve road safety across the city. Driving under the influence endangers lives and will attract a zero-tolerance response, including arrest, fines and vehicle impoundment where applicable.
