A 22-year-old woman and a 19-year-old man have been arrested and charged with hijacking following a vehicle which was hijacked in the early hours of Saturday, 12 January 2019. The owner of a white VW Polo hatch back alleged that at about 04:00, he gave two males and a female a lift from Kuruman CBD to Seoding village. While they were driving in the direction of Seoding Village, the female suspect asked the driver to stop as she wanted to urinate. The male suspects also climb out of the vehicle after the driver stopped to allow the female suspect to urinate. They attacked the driver and sped-off with his vehicle. The vehicle was later found abandoned at about 09:00 in Batlharos village, Nanana Section. The arrest of both the suspects were effected after the Trio Task Team followed the leads which linked the duo with the carjacking. They were arrested in Seoding village.
Both suspects are facing charges of car hijacking and they are expected to appear before the Mothibistad Magistrates’ Court on Monday, 15 January 2019.
Yet again, in a separate incident the John Taolo Gaetsewe Cluster Trio Task Team pounced on two male suspects with a vehicle reported to have been hijacked yesterday, 12 Saturday 2019 in Taung. The Trio Task Team received information regarding a possible attempted robbery in Maruping village. As they responded promptly to the call, they were led to the tuck-shop shop that the suspects had attempted to rob at gun-point.
The suspects fled the scene after realising that their endeavours to robbery does not succeed. They were seen getting into a get-away vehicle and drove into the bushes. Police found them busy washing the vehicle near a wind mill water pump and they immediately ran into the veld on foot. They were shortly arrested after the police chased after them on foot.
Two unlicensed firearm arm, .22 magnum, 7.65 mm pistol including 39 ammunition were found inside the vehicle. Upon investigation it was found that the very same vehicle was reported hijacked yesterday, 12 January 2019 in Taung. Where the driver was shot and his partner was raped by the alleged hijackers.
The Provincial Commissioner of the Northern Cape, Lieutenant General Risimati Shivuri commended his members for job well done, by arresting the suspects in these two cases.
