POLOKWANE – Members of the South African Police Service Highway Patrol Team in Limpopo, have arrested four suspects aged between 26 and 33 for house robbery, bribery, and possession of and dealing with illicit cigarettes during the operations which were up and running from 16 November 2020 until the morning of 18 November 2020 in the Mankweng, Apel and Mokopane Policing areas, respectively.
The Team received information regarding the suspects, wanted for a house robbery incident which occurred in the Mankweng area recently. The members operationalised and the suspect was cornered and arrested. During the arrest, the Police recovered a firearm and handcuffs.
In the Apel policing area, the Team arrested two suspects for bribery and possession of and dealing with illicit cigarettes while they were operating in the area on 17 November 2020. The arrest followed a tip-off and the subsequent recovery of 98 cartons of illicit cigarettes and cash. During the arrest, one of the suspects attempted to bribe the Police with R1000, and a bribery charge was then added.
Meanwhile, in the Mokopane area, the Team were Patrolling in and around the CBD when they spotted a suspicious man carrying a black plastic bag, entering one of the Supermarkets in the area. He was stopped and searched and found in possession of 09 x cartons of illicit cigarettes and they arrested him on the spot.
The Provincial Commissioner of the South African Police Service in Limpopo Lieutenant General Nneke Ledwaba has commended the Limpopo Highway Patrol Team (LHP) for their relentless efforts in the fight against all categories of crimes across the Province.
The arrested suspects will appear before different Magistrate’s Courts soon.
