Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) received two calls for assistance from Parkgate in Verulam – Kwazulu Natal this evening (Friday, 17 June 2022).
At approx 21:49 a resident of Heathrow Avenue reported hearing gunshots near his home. Reaction Officers were despatched to investigate. Whilst on route and at approx 21:51 the Operations Center received a second call from a resident on School Road reporting that he noticed a white vehicle partly obstructing his driveway as he returned home. When he approached the vehicle he found a male slumped in the drivers seat bleeding profusely from a wound to his head.
Reaction Officers responding to the initial call were re-directed to the scene and upon arrival found the driver gasping for breath in a white VW Golf 1 with Eastern Cape (EC) registration plates.
Medics were expedited to the provided location in the vicinity of the Parkgate Primary School to render immediate medical assistance.
Upon arrival, Paramedics found that the man had succumbed to his injuries. He sustained a single entry/exit gunshot wound to his head. A 9mm spent cartridge was found on scene. The man was found clutching a bag of cocaine and a second bag of drugs (see picture 2) was found in the vehicle. The deceased was not immediately identified. According to residents, he was not from the area.
The scene was handed over to the South African Police Service.
A case of murder is being investigated.
