In an effort to fight crime in the province and enforce the law, the police in Gauteng arrested nine hundred and thirty suspects, including wanted suspects during several operations that were conducted throughout the province over the weekend.
The suspects were arrested for various crimes such as possession and dealing in drugs, possession of suspected stolen property, possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition, illegal immigration, and illegal dealing of liquor amongst others.
Moreover, the detectives conducted a tracing of wanted suspects operation which resulted in the arrest of five hundred and fifty-eight suspects who have been on the run after committing serious and violent crimes. Sixty-eight of the arrests are Gender-Based Violence related crimes.
Meanwhile, Crime Intelligence and Flying Squad team arrested seven suspects after being caught stealing copper in Florida. The members further seized three rolls of copper, and one electric transformer and impounded an Isuzu vehicle that was used during the commission of a crime.
Arrested suspects will appear at different Magistrates’ courts from 13 June 2022.
