The Police in Limpopo has arrested 2153 suspects aged between 19 and 61 for various offenses including murder, attempted murder, rape, dealing in drugs, unlawful possession of firearms, and contravention of the Immigration Act.
The operations were conducted from 31 October to 07 November 2022. The operations were carried out by the various Police units comprising of Crime Intelligence, Limpopo Highway Patrol team, K9 Unit, Crime Prevention, Detectives, Stock theft, VCIU, and Flying Squad.
Firearms, drugs, and other items recovered during the operations are as follows: 14 firearms, 1769 Counterfeit Cigarettes, a large quantity of alcohol, 25 dangerous weapons, 73 knives, 10 stolen/ robbed vehicles, various drugs in the form of dagga, Nyaope, and Crystal Meth.
A total of 2158 fines were issued for contravention of the Road Traffic Act and 72 shebeens have been closed down for non-compliance.
During the operation conducted in the Polokwane Policing area, a 42-year-old undocumented suspect was arrested for dealing drugs. Police confiscated Crystal meth and other drugs to the estimated street value of R 2000-00.
Three suspects aged between 26 and 37 were arrested for business burglary and possession of suspected stolen properties at Bloodriver outside Seshego on 31 October 2022. The suspects were positively linked with a burglary committed at a school in the Matlala policing area. The stolen items such as groceries were confiscated.
A 22-year-old suspect was arrested for possession of illicit cigarettes on 31 October 2022 during an operation conducted in the Sekhukhune District. The suspect was arrested in the Groblersdal CBD and 12 cartoons of illicit cigarettes worth R1300 were confiscated.
The Provincial Commissioner of Police in Limpopo Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe has commended the members for performing their duties diligently and ensuring the citizens of this province are protected.
Some of the suspects by have started appearing before various Magistrate’s courts across the province.
The operations are ongoing in all the Districts of the Province.
