On Tuesday, 23 January 2024, Hawks members from Pietermaritzburg Serious Organised Crime Investigation working together with Umgungundlovu District Task Team, Crime Intelligence and private security company arrested a 36-year-old suspect for dealing in drugs as well as unlawful possession of ammunition.
Members received information about a suspect who was dealing in drugs in the Pietermaritzburg Central Business District. A disruptive operation was swiftly conducted and they proceeded to the said flat.
During the search heroin capsules and mandrax tablets to the street value of approximately R91 950.00 were found. Police also found five .38 live rounds of ammunition.
The suspect was placed under arrest and charged accordingly. His licenced 9mm pistol which was not in the mounted safe was seized. He is expected to appear in the Pietermaritzburg Magistrate’s Court today.
The KwaZulu-Natal Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation Provincial Head, Major General (Dr) Lesetja Senona welcomed the arrest of the suspect and commended the members for the good work.
