The vigilance and persistence of members attached to the Economic Infrastructure Task Team in collaboration with the public ensured that essential infrastructure is recovered and two suspects are behind bars.
On Tuesday at about 11:00, members attached to Economic Infrastructure Task Team reacted on information received from a member of the public about two suspects who were busy cutting catenary Transnet cables in an open field situated in Fairyland in Paarl. The members immediately reacted on the information and on their arrival they found the two suspects red-handed, busy cutting cables into smaller pieces.
They arrested the two suspects aged 34 and 44 and seized the following items: which included 50 meters catenary Transnet cables and 8.5kg loose copper pieces, a hex saw and two plyers. The discovery is estimated at a value of about R50 000-00.
The two suspects face charges relating to the possession of stolen property and are scheduled to appear in the Paarl Magistrates’ court on mentioned charges on Thursday, 25 January 2024.
