On Sunday morning, Mi7 Control Room Operators received a request for assistance from a local community group in Balhambra Way. Community members initially reported that a resident had caught a trespasser on their property, and had successfully detained him.
However, Reaction Officers dispatched to the premises were told that the resident initially saw the suspect scaling a neighbour’s fence and entering the home, attempting to steal items from inside.
The quick-thinking resident then alerted other neighbours, all of whom gathered to surround and detain the suspect, who was found with a knife.
Reaction Officers noticed that the suspect matched the description of a man wanted for other crimes in the area recently, including burglaries, thefts out of motor vehicles, and armed robberies. He revealed that he had stored the stolen items at a nearby informal settlement.
Mi7 teams proceeded to the location, where they found a cache of stolen goods. Along with their counterparts from another service provider, Mi7 teams then moved to a second location.
This, according to the suspect, was where his accomplice could be found. While the accomplice was not linked to the case on Sunday, it is believed the two worked together on other crimes.
Both were handed over to the police for further investigation.
