The Newcastle Municipality advises motorists that Harding Street ( intersection of Voortrekker and Harding Street ) next to the Department of Health, is currently closed due to a sinkhole caused by heavy rains.
Our Municipal Technical teams are working tirelessly through the rain to repair the road, in the interim motorists are therefore urged to use alternative routes.
Due to persisting rain, drivers are advised to exercise caution and follow safe driving practices, including:
– Reducing speed to maintain control and reaction time
– Increasing the distance between vehicles to prevent sudden braking and collisions
– Switching on headlights to improve visibility
– Avoiding large puddles to prevent hydroplaning and hidden pothole damage
– Ensuring windshield wipers are in good condition
The municipality appreciates your patience and understanding as our teams work diligently to repair the damage and restore the road to a safe and accessible state for all users.
