Severe thunderstorms and heavy rainfall in parts of the Northern Cape have raised serious concerns about the safety of motorists.
In light of these developments, the South African Police Service (SAPS) in the Northern Cape urges all motorists to exercise heightened caution and adhere to the following safety guidelines when travelling during inclement weather:
Reduce speed and increase the following distance to allow adequate reaction time in the event of sudden stops or changing road conditions.
Use headlights at all times to improve visibility and ensure your vehicle is visible to other road users.
Ensure that windscreen wipers are in good working condition to maintain clear visibility.
Avoid driving through puddles and standing water, which may conceal potholes or cause loss of control.
Exercise caution around large vehicles, as water spray may significantly reduce visibility.
Remain alert and avoid distractions. If conditions become unsafe, pull over at a secure location until it is safe to proceed.
All road users are urged to remain vigilant, drive responsibly and prioritise safety at all times. #WaterSafety
