On Tuesday, 17 March 2026, information was received from a reliable source pertaining to the possession and distribution of an unlicensed firearm and narcotics associated with a local gang grouping in Phillipi. The source also confirmed that since the morning, there were several shots fired between two gang groupings.
Later the day, observation was conducted at a premises in Punt Road, Phillipi Farms, Phillipi. While conducting the observation, members saw a lot of movement happening on the premises. The members immediately operationalised the information and went to the premises and a thorough search was conducted.
Members found 10 rounds of ammunition in a cupboard in the bedroom and an significant amount of mandrax tablets, ungar and tik in a Wendy house on the plot.
The members continued with their search and also found a black imitation AK-SA Arms AK 18 9mm firearm with five blank 9mm rounds on the premise, with nine sachets of tik, six heroine straws, a mandrax tablet, nine heroine units wrapped in small orange plastics.
Three suspects, a 27-year-old male was arrested for possession of drugs and possession of an imitation firearm, a 37-year-old female was arrested for dealing in drugs, and a 26-year old female was arrested for illegal possession of ammunition.
